Candlemas Celebration 2022

On the left, #Geoff and #John planting an #ashtree, where a new belt of trees will be planted. Following our custom on #Candlemas Day we put several #candles into the #Earth and lit them to mark #winter gradually coming to an end and looking forward towards #spring. #October 31st was an old #Celtic #festival, known as #Samhain. It was also the beginning of the #New #Year and marked the transition from summer’s end to the beginning of a long, unpredictable winter that could bring hunger and hardship.
